Flooding Issues

The City consistently monitors the affects of water on the roadways in Brampton during and after storms. Flooding may be cause by, but is not limited to the following:

    • Overflowing ponds, creeks and rivers onto street-to-street walkways, sidewalks or roads
    • Washed out roadway or bridges
    • Major erosions of the earth or structures around watercourses and storm water management ponds
    • Blocked catch basins

Flooding caused by a blocked sewer, water main break or hydrant leakage is the responsibility of the Region of Peel.

During a severe rainstorm, flooding or water ponding can occur because catch basins and storm sewers cannot handle the amount of rainfall. However, the water should drain away once the rainstorm clears.

The City will only address flooding concerns on private property 48 hours after a storm has ended. Private property includes:

  • Backyards,
  • Side of house
  • Front yard
