Enforcement & By-Law Services - Neighbours Tree Pruning

Trees that encroach on or overhang property lines can be cut or trimmed without permission from the owner of the property on which the tree resides as long as the tree growth that is being trimmed is on your property

The City of Brampton recommends contacting the owner of the tree prior to any work being completed. If private tree work is required, residents should hire a qualified arborist.

City of Brampton does not have jurisdiction in:

  • A neighbor dispute about a tree hanging over the property line.

Residents are responsible for:

  • Advising their neighbour that they intend on trimming the tree portion that overhangs onto their property

Important:

  • If the tree dies because of trimming you could be liable for cost to replace the tree

If you require further assistance, please contact 311 within Brampton or 905-874-2000.
