Enforcement & By-Law Services – Election Signs on Private Property
City of Brampton have set bylaws regarding posting election signs on private property.
- For a municipal election or by-election, only erected after 5:00 p.m. twenty-four (24) days prior to Voting Day as defined in the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, as amended.
- For a federal or provincial election, only erected after 5:00 p.m. on the date the Writ of Election is issued in accordance with the Canada Elections Act, as amended, and the Election Act, as amended.
- Consent shall be obtained from the owner of the property prior to the erection of the sign.
- Limited to no more than two election signs per candidate on any one residential property.
- Limited to no more than three election signs per candidate on any one private property other than residential.
- Removed within 72 hours after the close of the election for which it was erected.
- Not to exceed 2 m2 (21.5 ft2) in sign area
You can report any violation for election signs posted on private residential property such as:
- Too many signs
- Exterior Signs
- Posted too early
- Posted after election
- Blocking Visibility
- Posted without consent
