Short-term Rental Housing Concerns (e.g. AirBNB and VRBO)
The City's first Short-term Rental Licensing By-Law was implemented on September 30, 2021.
The term “Short-Term Rental” or “Short-Term Accommodation” is typically described as all or part of a dwelling unit used to provide sleeping accommodations for any rental period that is less than 30 consecutive days in exchange for payment, and does not include bed and breakfasts, hotels and motels.
Online short-term rental (STR) platforms consist of those such as Airbnb, VRBO, HomeAway, and FlipKey
In order to obtain a short-term rental licence, applicants must meet the requirements of the by-law and are required to complete the application form.
Licence holders must comply with all provisions of the Short-Term Rental Registration Licensing By-Law. A breach of the By-Law may result in a short-term rental licence being suspended or revoked. For more information, please refer to Suspension and Revocation of Short-Term Rental Licenses (RM 59/2024).
For concerns about the conduct of the Short-Term Rental Licence holder or you believe the property is not being operated in accordance with a By-law, you can request a review of the licence.
